STC Pre-Season Race #1 – Cal Raceway

This past Sunday, October 15th, the STC held its first Pre-Season Race at Cal Raceway in Orange, CA. This event was scheduled to allow you to come out and test your car in race conditions prior to the start of the Season. We incorporated the class into Cal’s normal race program, making it an easy day to work on your car without having to worry about pit stops or other aspects of the Series.

We had 4 drivers show up, myself, Ken Gerberding, Alvin Ma and Ed Bohon. All the drivers had a bit of a challenge with their cars seeing as track conditions were super tacky, but everyone got a good day’s driving in to learn the ins-and-outs of the ST550.

This session was great for giving feedback about what we need to do to the cars for the upcoming season – tires being the big factor. At next month’s race, we will be testing a few different tires as well to see what kind of performance we can extract from the Apex2 chassis.

One things for sure, this class is going to be BIG on close racing! Here are some stats:

So, as you can see, this is going to be some VERY close racing in this class!!
